Every year we make a noise together that stretches around the world.
Drone Day is an annual celebration of drone, community, and experimental sounds. Contributing to this international event, we are pleased to host two public events during the evenings of May 23 & 24, 2025 in the New Media Gallery exhibition space. We are also presenting five Art + Technology education workshops throughout Anvil Centre. Workshops explore sound art and creative making with sound. Echoes of a Sound | Friday, May 23 | Doors at 7:00 pm | Event 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
A collaborative and improvisational mix incorporating a selection of ambient and fourth-world vinyl records, coupled with field recordings captured in the Howe Sound Biosphere region and other past of the Salish Sea
Drone Day New West | Saturday, May 24 | Doors at 7:00 pm | Event 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
A community drone jam, featuring you and your drone-marker. Participate, Observe, Document: you decide.

ART & TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOPS
1. Voice Clone Overdub | 18+ years
Create original voice sound clips with Descript: Overdub. Use samples of your own voice to generate an ultra-realistic voice-over tool to read a written text, or to narrate an existing video. Have fun cloning your voice, by synthesizing several audio clips produced during the class into an audio AI capable of mimicking your unique way of talking. Instructor: Stéphane Bernard.

2. Sonic Pi Workshop | 7 - 10 years
Learn the science of sound and how to make amazing compositions on the computer. Students use the Sonic Pi software to create sound art, learn music basics, and how to translate that into electronic music. This workshop will also cover how to add notes and live code using Sonic-Pi (sonic-pi.net). Instructor: Alanna Ho.

3.Intro to DIY Synths | 18+ years
Use basic electronic components to make your own square wave synthesizer. Create an instrument using a beginner-friendly circuit that is easy to expand on and build into more complex sound circuits. No prior experience with electronics necessary. The workshop will culminate in a creative jam session. Instructor: Jae Lew.

4. Shaping Electronic Sound | 18+ years
Learn how to make your own sounds using open-source synthesizers. Go beyond the presets on your modular, software, or keyboard synth. No keyboard skills required. Instructor: Victoria Gibson.

Learn to create interactive video and sound. Generate basic video/sound effects while learning how to make them interactive. Explore the concepts of interactivity and how it can be a form of expression. Instructor: Chris Jung.
